I checked one of the local beaches this afternoon to see if there were any interesting gulls, or perhaps a tern. Nothing doing there but I was very surprised to find this adult Snow Goose among the Slaty-backed and Black-tailed Gulls.
A scarce and local passage visitor to Hokkaido (usually in the east): I saw a small flock in Onuma last year and this was only the second time I’d seen this species in Japan.
Good spot Stuart and at such an odd location….Still waiting to see my first Snow Goose anywhere. Morning vizmigging here in North London productive with big passages of Chaffinch and today Redwing heading south. With the odd Skylark, Fieldfare and Hawfinch.
Thanks Tony. Is Megumi back in the UK or is she still here?
Great to have Megumi back in London for these 3 weeks returning to Haneda Sunday – then 2 weeks in (airport) hotel quarantine before returning to Hakodate…
Hope it is a nice hotel then!
I’d never thought of Snow Goose as a “beach Bird”, but what do I know ?
Me neither but there it was!
