The spoonbills were still around but way off…
The best shots I manged of the Dollarbird were with the 600 f/11.
I didn’t really get any BIFs I was happy with.
The last morning it had apparently gone…
On the way back there were Marsh Sandpiper and Falcated Duck at Yakumo but otherwise a bit quiet.
Some f/11 thrushes…
Some other birds from the campsite included these 2 species…
There were also Japanese Grosbeak, Siberian Blue Robin, Brown Dipper and Hawfinch. Flyovers included White-tailed Eagle, Osprey and Eastern Marsh Harrier.
Much nicer than the dull juveniles we usually see of these species…
Nice to see them looking so colourful…
In addition to the stints there were a few Dunlin and loads of Grey-tailed Tattler..
I changed to the 600 f/11 on the 2nd afternoon.
There was a flock of red-necked Stints in one of the ports; all in summer plumage.
It was still around the next morning but it either stayed on the wires or flew off in the wrong direction for a photo…
At least the light was better than the day before.
There was a very vocal pair of Grey-headed Woodpeckers around the campsite…
Bird of the trip was Dollarbird; only the 3rd time I’ve seen it in Hokkaido. Shame it was so dark that first day.
High ISOs are OK with the R5 though.
