Lots of wildfowl passing through. These 2 Gadwall were at Yakumo.
At Onuma there were 000’s of Pintail and Bewick’s Swan as well as Taiga Bean Goose, Falcated Duck and Baikal Teal. But nothing close enough for a photo. Except this Redpoll…

The Long-tailed Ducks had left the port (although I did see them in the distance way offshore). The Black Scoters were still around.
And this Gadwall were at Yakumo…………a heavy crop this one.
Not a vintage last few days for photos but a few interesting birds around at least: Black-winged Stilt, Green Sandpiper, Grey-tailed Tattler, Kentish Plover, Shoveler, Gadwall, Great Egret, Pacific Swift, Wryneck, Red-flanked Bluetail, Red-cheeked Starling, Black-throated Diver, White-fronted Goose………..
Most interesting was this briefly seen Eurasian Spoonbill. Only the 5th one I’ve seen in Japan.
There were lots of duck species around at Yakumo today. The avove Falcated Duck and a male Garganey were the most interesting and there were also Gadwall, Shoveler and another dozen or so species as well as Mandarin Duck and Smew at Onuma.
All flight shots today.
I managed to revisit another old haunt when I was back in the Uk: Seaforth Dock Pools in Liverpool.
You need a permit to get in these days and the reserve has seen better days and is just about clinging on. It is surrounded by new buildings and a lot of the birds seem to have gone. It used to be famous for Little Gulls but we couldn’t find any this day.
There were a few common ducks around like the above Gadwall and lots of Shelduck (I’ve only ever seen one in Japan).
There were also a few common waders around: Dunlin, Red Knot, Eurasian Curlew etc.
