3 more common species from last Sunday; all taken with the 600 f/11 (like almost all my photos recently)…

A ‘new’ beach…
A small beach which we have mostly ignored over the years had several waders…including 15 or so very jumpy Eastern Curlew…
The big one
The largest of the common passage waders. There were 6 of them. This is a juvenile (short bill).
And this is an adult…?
f/11 shots from the weekend
Quite happy with some of these shots…
Some Easterners
There were 3 juvenile Eastern Curlew at Yakumo yesterday…
Wader season fizzling out
Maybe the last of 2023 from Yakumo this afternoon…
Another dark windy Monday
Hakodate had its hottest every day last week but amazingly we had another cool Monday (the high temps will return later this week…again).
The above Kestrel at Yakumo was a nice find; not a bird I often see in Hokkaido.
The storms were pushing the waves right up the beaches so it was tricky to find waders; only 3 species around today. And terrible conditions once again for photos.
Hot time here
Turned very hot here, as it always does at the end of July.
Last weekend the waders had started passing through. There was 1 Eastern Curlew, a couple of adult Red-necked Stint and a small flock of Kentish Plover (these may have bred locally actually).
