Looking for cones entangled in the grass…
Still some Coal Tits around too…

Still some Coal Tits around too…
There were also Eastern Great Tit, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker and 1 Dusky Thrush.
I took the 400 f5/6L this morning hoping to get better crossbill shots (as they were so tame yesterday) but the crossbills didn’t pose for any photos…
Not only crossbills are associated with pinecones in my mind…
From the big park near my place this afternoon…
Some common birds from the 2 tiny parks in my neighbourhood the last 2 days…
Like I said, no crossbill or redpoll pics but there were plenty of other small birds around.
Crossbills aren’t the only birds on the pine trees…
3 species of heron about near my apartment including 8 Great Egret.
Also around were Dusky Thrush, Daurian Redstart, Nuthatch, 3 species of tit, Long-tailed Rosefinch, the injured Whooper Swan and 5 species of duck including 4 Goosander.
Other common species shared the same park as the crossbills…
About a dozen species were on view…
A dark rainy Monday, not ideal for either birding or bird photos.
We went back to one of the Crossbill spots but there were only a few around and there weren’t many other birds either, only common stuff.
A cold windy Sunday today. Several inches of snow fell last night but has now mostly melted.
I couldn’t find any geese at Onuma but there were still plenty of Swans (both species) and ducks. These included newly arrived Mandarin Ducks which were displaying in small groups. There were quite a few Eagles around too: at least 9 White-tailed Eagles and 1 adult Steller’s Sea Eagle.
Small birds were again few and far between but there were a few Siskin and Dusky Thrush at Onuma and the above Coal Tit was in a park just outside town.
