Some more low-key birding around town…
There were 7 species of duck including a small flock of Pintail and a couple of Shoveler…and the long-staying Whooper Swan too.
And 3 species of heron…
This Slaty-backed Gull had found a salmon-like fish to try and eat. I think its’ a salmon but not sure. I think there are 2 or 3 kinds in Hokkaido.
For me, Crossbills were the most interesting things in Oshamanbe but there were other things too……….
The Common Starling was still around.
The Slavonian Grebe and Black-throated Diver from last week were also present. I couldn’t get a photo of the latter but a Slaty-backed Gull stole its fish…………
Flocks of Stenjeger’s Scoter were offshore and other good stuff today included a few White-tailed and Steller’s Sea Eagles, 2 Long-tailed Duck, Black Scoter and other common ducks, Whooper Swan, Great Egret, Eastern Buzzard and a big flock of Waxwings on the outskirts of Hakodate.
