Well the start of a new era in Japan, literally.
It was agrey drizzly day and just outside Hakodate there was a flock of 16 Ruddy Turnstone.

Other stuff around included Great-crested Grebe, 10 or so Brent Geese, a few wildfowl and duck stragglers, 1 Grey-tailed Tattler and 2 Common Sandpiper.

Turnstone is the sort of bird that, when I see my first of a migration season, I always go – “Oh, what’s that ?”. By which I mean that they always grab my attention…
I remember being surprised at Mai Po you said ‘ooh a Turnstone’ amidst all (to me) 5 star the other wader frenzy.
