A young Steller’s leaving its perch…

Some youngsters
Although the eagle season seems destined to be a bit disappointing again it was heartening to see quite a few first (and /or) second year Steller’s Sea Eagle..
Some Steller’s
Blizzards in Yakumo a couple of days ago…
Fewer eagles than normal (but slightly better than last year) and another poor salmon run (but again slightly better than last year)…
Back
The local Steller’s is back.
You can’t see it from these pics but it’s right eye looked damaged (it wasn’t yellow). Its right eye was OK last year. I’m assuming it’s the same bird that winters in this place every year but who knows?
Another poor eagle season?
There were some eagles around in Yakumo yesterday but not so many. Very low numbers of salmon again this winter: it’s not looking good. How long will they stick around?
Swirling blizzards most of the day, the above Steller’s flew over in a short gap of clear skies.
Late Winter Trip 2022 Day 5 #13
Not a great pic but surely my last Steller’s until next winter. And it was Ol’ One-eye.
And just to show it wasn’t all geese, eagles and deer:
Late Winter Trip 2022 Day 3 #1
An early start on a dark third morning with heavy overnight snow…
There were at least 3 Steller’s still in the area including the above one.
And this one, the one with the gammy left eye.
I know they have membranes in the eye that can close but this individual was like this all the time.
Here it is on the good side.
Late Winter Trip 2022 Day 1 #2
Several Steller’s remained in the area. This individual was easy to identify due to its gammy left eye.
White-taileds were far more numerous.
A short trip out east
I was surprised to see this lone Bean Goose in the same place I’d seen 3 Greater White-fronts last month…
A pretty quiet day, the local Steller’s flew around a bit but up high and it was not especially photogenic today.
Only female Harlequins in camera range again…
A quiet Sunday again
A quiet Sunday out east today, but it’s difficult to get too tired of the common winter species here…
A blessing
No matter how crappy life has been the last couple of years I still have a fairly local Steller’s Sea Eagle…
It Moves!
The local Steller’s Sea Eagle has been very inactive this winter. At times I thought it had been nailed to its perch, or frozen to it.
But today it was flying around…
