Well, they don’t come every year.
Tag: Japanese Waxwing
Not only Japanese
The flock was mainly Japanese Waxwing but there quite a few Bohemians too.
The easiest way to tell them apart is the colour of the tail tip (red in Japanese, yellow in Bohemian) or the yellow stomach of the Japanese which is very conspicuous in flight……….
The invasion continues
Bohemian Waxwings occur widely across northern latitudes but Japanese Waxwing is an East Asian endemic and hence are more sought after by visiting birders……….
They seemed to be more numerous than Bohemians yesterday and today anyway.
An invasion
A lot of Waxwings in town today…………
Looks like 2020 might be one of those winters……………..
Both species were present, these photos are all Japanese Waxwing though.
First Waxwings of the winter
I saw a flock of 8 Waxwings in town today. 3 Bohemian (above) and 5 Japanese Waxwings (below).
I didn’t either species last year but 2 years ago there were loads of them. I wonder what the rest of winter will hold?
