The ports didn’t have that many birds; here are some of the commoner ones.

We stayed away (sleeping in the car!) for a night…
It was holiday time in Japan so everywhere was really quiet and nobody was working in the ports. I was delighted to find a couple of Stejneger’s Scoter in one of them. Usually this species stays on the sea…
The first 2 are an adult male, the bottom one must be a younger bird as its bill structure isn’t fully developed yet.
A New Year stroll #1
There were 9 (!) species of duck on the river including this female Falcated Duck.
And about half a dozen Great Egret…
A dark day around town
A dark day yesterday and a check of some of the local spots…
Some Redpolls around here too…
Parklife
A Falcated Duck was a nice find in the local park. In addition to the crossbills there were also Common Redpoll and lots and lots of thrushes.. mainly Dusky Thrush (which are everywhere at the moment; unusual in autumn) but also several other species.
Golden Week 2023 #2
A dreary overcast afternoon in Yakumo and hard work with the RF 600 f/11…
A pair of Garganey were present as were several Northern Shoveler, Great and Little Egret, Eurasian Curlew (presumably the same bird as 3 weeks ago) and about 200 White-fronts…
Almost there
Not quite in full summer colours yet…
But almost…
