The geese had already arrived but the fields were covered in snow and we couldn’t get close to the feeding flock. So just BIFs as they moved around looking for food.
Most of them were Greater White-fronts…
There were some Harlequin Ducks at Sawara but not much else…
Onuma was a bit better although no decent photos sadly. there were at least 3 White-tailed Eagles, a pair of Black Woodpecker, Whooper and Bewick’s Swans, Bean Geese and Smew…
Mild warm sunny weather at midday and and photos of birds + water= soft photos…
Think that one must have over-summered locally…
A dreary overcast afternoon in Yakumo and hard work with the RF 600 f/11…
A pair of Garganey were present as were several Northern Shoveler, Great and Little Egret, Eurasian Curlew (presumably the same bird as 3 weeks ago) and about 200 White-fronts…
There were some geese at Yakumo at the weekend…
Shame about the light.
The Snow Geese didn’t come close…
The White-fronts did. Here are a couple looking miserable in the rain.
Cackling Geese were the second most numerous species in the flock…
There were a few Bean Geese with the White-fronts. Some were a bit small like this one, think it might be a Tundra Bean Goose?
Quite a lot of Cackling Goose…
And a handful of Snow Geese…
A leucistic White-front…
The nearby fields had plenty of geese…
Most of them were Greater White-fronts.
