A male as tame as this one before all the crossbills leave would be nice…

Not there on Monday
Some more shots of the White-winged Crossbill from Sunday. I went back to the same spot twice on Monday but it wasn’t there…
More WWs
This one was very tame…
Another White-winged!
Another one among the regular Common Crossbills on Sunday. This individual doesn’t have the white tertial tips, is it first winter? Moulting?
At last!
The male White-winged (or Two-barred if you will) came down to drink briefly…right at my feet!
Before I had time to squat down for a better angle it flew off…
Frustration
I saw it several times but it refused to pose for a photo…
Unlike its relatives.
Another!
I found a female Two-barred Crossbill; possibly the same one I saw in November?
Not great shots sadly…
Several of the regular crossbills had various wing markings too.
A Christmas Day Walk #5
Not great photos but I was pretty stoked to find this male White-winged Crossbill in the crossbill flock yesterday. Pretty rare in Japan; my second one this year.
Actually I think this subspecies should be called Two-barred Crossbill.
Odd one out
The crossbills are still in town but mostly high up…except when they come down for a drink.
There are several flocks in town and they are all very restless and mobile. I tried some BIF shots and found something interesting on the wholly crappy pics…look at the odd one out.
