Lots of this species in the park, the ‘other’ sparrow here in Japan…
Unlike the abundant urban-dwelling Eurasian Tree Sparrows the sexes in this species are different.
Golden Week 2024 #4
Not a vintage morning for photos but the park was full of birds…
Dusky, Japanese and Brown-headed Thrush, Narcissus Flycatcher, Eastern Crowned and Sakhalin Leaf Warbler, Wryneck, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Latham’s Snipe and lots of Russet Sparrow.
And the usual common stuff…
Some more park birds
Also in the park were 3 species of woodpecker, Narcissus Flycatcher, Oriental and Common Cuckoo but sadly not any interesting migrants.
Although the regular summer visitors are interesting enough…
Golden Week 2023 #6
Yesterday Narcissus Flycatcher and Eastern Crowned Warbler were around in the park just outside town, as well as Pale Thrush, Wryneck and all the usual stuff but not many photo opps. Pretty quiet compared to 2021 and 2022 in this location and at this time.
The above Olive-backed Pipit was nice to see and there are always the common species like Russet Sparrow. This is a sparrow species that stays high up in the trees…
And the very common Masked Bunting…this ringed male was in exactly the same corner of the park last year.
A grey Thursday morning
Grey skies and grey birds this morning…
Russet Sparrow even lower
Finally at eye level…
And it had found a home for its family this spring…
Russet Sparrow down low
These are usually high up in the trees but this one stayed fairly low for a while…
Golden Week 2022 #26
Some of the commoner birds in the park this morning…
Golden Week 2022 #2
Russet Sparrows are summer visitors and are usually high in the treetops…
Golden Week 2021 #9
A quiet end to Golden Week saw us nearer town……………..
This injured Brent Goose was being hungrily eyed by crows. I chased them off but it wasn’t there today.
