Short local May trip 2024 #1
We had a short 2 night/3 day camping trip and checked out the Oshamambe area…
The weather was awful on the way up; very dark and raining. There were a few common waders around…
Other stuff around included Common Greenshank, various duck species including a drake Garganey at Yakumo, Wryneck, Great Egret etc.
Golden Week 2024 #26
A lot of time spent outside today but not many birds about. West of town there were Wood Sandpiper and plenty of Ospreys, just outside town there were Northern Shoveler, a few Grey-tailed Tattler and the above Little Ringed Plover and near my apartment there was a Sakhalin Leaf Warbler. Slim pickings as the spring holiday nears its end…
A stop at a rivermouth
We stopped at Yakumo on the way back from our trip…
An Osprey was fishing just offshore.
Not great conditions for BIfs.
Golden Week 2022 #6
Some common birds at this time of year posing for the camera…
Summer arrivals
Summer stuff is arriving all the time: Stejneger’s Stonechat, Chestnut-cheeked Starling, Common Reed Bunting etc etc. The above Red-flanked Bluetail was in Yakumo yesterday and this Little Ringed Plover was near Hakodate today.
Golden Week 2021 #6
Waders have started appearing: this Bar-tailed Godwit was near Oshamanbe.
A few Wood Sandpipers were also around as well as some Kentish Plover. Little Ringed Plovers are summer breeders and are in many locations now.
