Only a few of this species around at the moment. This tame one was near my apartment this afternoon…

The other one
More heavy blizzards today but I made it out in the gaps. Only 2 Crossbill and not many other birds around but I did find a flock of 7 Japanese Waxwing. They were feasting on a bigger berry than normal.
They yellow belly immediately distinguishes this species from Bohemian Waxwing (which were around last week but have since moved on).
Some Dusky Thrush were in the same tree…
Lots of these
Some of the common birds that seem to be everywhere this autumn…
Also around are flocks of Brambling and Siskin as well as a flock of Bohemian Waxwing. And lots of Eastern Buzzard.
Golden Week 2023 #5
The neighbourhood has been pretty quiet birdwise in 2022 and 2023 and this Golden Week has been no exception. But some of the coommon species are worth taking time to appreciate…
Shrikes, even a common one like this, are still exotic in my eyes.
A quick stroll
2 not very interesting birds from a short stroll this afternoon. I was trying to photograph my first Chestnut-cheeked Starlings of the year but they kept flying off.
Always Dusky Thrush around in spring as well as the ubiquitous Brown-eared Bulbuls.
It was overcast and I was using the RF 600 f/11 again. ISO 1600, I’m too lazy to open Topaz DeNoise for these common birds…plus the new Lightroom AI noise function isn’t that great so I didn’t use that either.
Canon RF 600 f/11
Someone very kindly lent me his 600 f11 lens when he heard about my dodgy shoulder.
It was a nice sunny day today so I took it out for a spin. It might take a bit of getting used to but it seems pretty reasonable for a walk about lens…
No exciting birds around, the injured long-staying Whooper and a few common ducks and lots of Dusky Thrush.
A Dusky portrait
The snow is starting to melt in places; this Dusky Thrush was behind a snow drift on an open piece of grass foraging on fallen berries….
It’s been a long winter.
Quiet in town
Not many passerines around anywhere, and Hakodate is no exception.
Just a few Dusky Thrush. Hope they leave a few berries for any waxwings that may wander this way…
Golden Week 2022 #6
Some common birds at this time of year posing for the camera…
A lot
A lot of Dusky Thrushes in town at the moment…
A quiet walk in the park
Some common species from the local park…
A very slow March
A very very quiet time at the moment: for various reasons I haven’t been out much and even when I do there aren’t many birds around. 2022 has been a bit of a slow year across the board.
Here are a few common local birds from the last few days.
