I was using the EF 400 f5.6/L today, a change from the RF 600 f/11. Thinks it’s better all round (except for handheld video) if you can get close to the birds.

More snow consumption
The flock was almost all Bohemian waxwing with just a couple of Japanese Waxwing mixed in.
More drinking
Not much else do at this time of year, eh?
A pre-xmas drink
Not much to eat in the local park for the waxwings 2 days ago. The Dusky thrush passage in October finished off most of the berries there. So they decided to have a drink. Of snow.
And then it was over
After about half an hour the flock flew off…
The 600 f/11 was not the best tool for the job yesterday; it was a bit dark and also dumbo here forgot to toggle off crop mode which resulted in a lot of chopped off body parts. High ISOs meant a lot of noise reduction which gives the mushy photos a slightly ‘arty’ feel which I kind of don’t mind (they look brutal if you pixel-peep though).
But… you can never complain about a busy tame flock of waxwings. Ever.
More backgrounds
Like I said a few posts ago, I could hit a few smoother backgrounds today…
But not always…
Low down
Some came almost to ground level…
But most didn’t…
Waxy deluge
I fired off way too many shots.
Waxwing Team Meetings
Some group shots…
More Boh’s
Awful light again but the birds were very close…
A clear background
Even the RF 600 f/11 could manage with some of the backgrounds yesterday…
Here they come…
A large flock of Bohemian Waxwing was on the main street in town yesterday…
There were about 150 of them.
