A really crappy photo but it’s of quite a scarce bird up here: a Dollarbird. An overshoot visitor I think.
Only the second one I’ve seen in Hokkaido and it was on a wire on an unlikely looking mountain road in the middle of nowhere.
It was very jumpy, maybe I’ll go back tomorrow and see if it’s still there.
That Dollarbirds a bit special, never heard of before…
Had a Little Egret fly over the house this morning – number 32 on my house lockdown list!
When I lived near Sydney, I used to see the odd one (perhaps the same one), perched high on a dead or bare branch of a tree. This one came down a little closer one day:

Hi Tony, this bird is also known as Broad-billed Roller: they are pretty widespread across tropical Asia and Australia. It wasn’t there when we went back today though!

Dollarbirds are passage migrants for us here in HK, sometimes quite obliging to photographers, depending on how tired they are….
I was there again today and it definitely wasn’t obliging!
