A rare bird on a wire

Dollarbird

A really crappy photo but it’s of quite a scarce bird up here: a Dollarbird. An overshoot visitor I think.

Only the second one I’ve seen in Hokkaido and it was on a wire on an unlikely looking mountain road in the middle of nowhere.

It was very jumpy, maybe I’ll go back tomorrow and see if it’s still there.

  1. That Dollarbirds a bit special, never heard of before…
Had a Little Egret fly over the house this morning – number 32 on my house lockdown list!

  2. Hi Tony, this bird is also known as Broad-billed Roller: they are pretty widespread across tropical Asia and Australia. It wasn’t there when we went back today though!
